In what sort of vegetation do I want to hunt in? What is required and what is it like to hunt in South Africa?

The most important decision that a hunter visiting South Africa for a first time has to make is in which biome he/she wants to hunt.

A biome is a large area with similar plant communities.

By just looking at the map it should be clear that the savanna biome, the grassveldt biome and the Nama Karoo biomes cover the majority of our country.

Each biome has a specific animal community that is well adapted to survive in the particular biome. In nature there is seldom a hard and fast rule, but some animals can only thrive in one or two of the biome types, while others are very adaptable, and can be found in a variety of biomes.

You can read which animals favor which biomes on the Big Game pages.
